Necronomicon
The famous H. P. Lovecraft's dark book, a fictional grimoire appearing in some of his stories.
The Necronomicon is just a work of fiction. It never existed but inside Lovecraft's stories and novels. Unfortunately a lot of people still think otherwise.
First mentioned in Lovecraft's 1924 short story 'The Hound' (actually written in 1922), the work contains an account of the Old Ones (Lovecraft's favorite group of evil beings), their history, and the means for summoning them.
How Lovecraft conceived the word Necronomicon is not that clear, although he allegedly said the name came to him in a dream. He was often asked about the veracity of the Necronomicon, and always answered that it was completely his invention.
H. P. Lovecraft was born on August 20, 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island. His mother was Sarah Susan Phillips Lovecraft and his father was Winfield Scott Lovecraft, a traveling salesman for Gorham & Co. Silversmtihs. Suffering from cancer of the intestine, Lovecraft was admitted to Jane Brown Memorial Hospital and on March 15, 1937 he died.
Since H. P. Lovecraft's death, various publishers and authors — in an obvious attempt to capitalize on the popularity of his work — have printed books with the same title.
